Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) militants have reportedly launched iconoclastic attacks against religious sites in the areas of Iraq that they control.
ISIS has apparently targeted numerous shrines and mosques that they deem offensive.
Detailed reports are not yet available, but a number of photos of iconoclastic destruction have been posted on social media sites used by militants.
The BBC reports on this new wave of iconoclasm.
